Introduction:

       Show the children arange of different greetings cards on flipchart.

       Discuss the designs andpoint out elements, such as pictures, fonts, captions andmessages.

       Ask the children todecide which card, of a particular type was most appealing orappropriate for the occasion.

 

Main

Ask the children load Word and type theirfull name.

       Demonstrate how to editthe font by changing its size, type and colour, including bold anditalic.

       Demonstrate how to usethe Undo Tool reverse last action.

       Demonstrate usingWordArt altering style and changing colour and font.

       Give the children timeto practice their name using features shown.

  Typein a number of words, eg rainbow, grow, lean, high,low, stairs and ghost.

       Ask the children tochange the look of each word (7 words) so that it reflects itsmeaning, eg placing each letter of rainbow in a differentcolour, increasing the font size of each letter in grow.

       Give the children timeto practice their name using features shown.

       Demonstrate to the chnhow to insert borderart, and to add a textbox.

       Explain how to removethe line or to make it thicker or alter the colour.

 

Chn should complete a page which includesthe words which have fonts that reflect their meaning, whichcontains borderart and a text box with the chns names in.

Plenary:

       Ask the children todiscuss the effects they created and how they might use some ofthese effects in a card they design and produce.

Did they discover any fonts that were noteasy to read? What effect did changing the size of the fonthave?

Moreable:

Toalter the 7 words but to think of 3 more of their own. To include 2text boxes, one with no line, one with thicker line and diffcolour.

Lessable:

Toalter and change just 4 words and add borderart but notextbox.

Discuss ideas as a pair and listen to eachothers opinion.

Introduction:

Recap features from previous lesson used inWord. Ask if chn know what Publisher is? Explain that it is a DeskTop Publishing program. Explain this means you can create thingsusing text and graphics. Many things are created in DTP packages:Leaflets, banner, business cards, greeting cards etc.

 

Main:

Open publisher and show chn the listavailable on the wizard. Explain that today we are just going tofocus on the features it has. Select a blank page. Show the chn thetoolbars that has similar icons to word. Point to a few and ask thechn what they are, e.g. Print, save, copy etc.

       Explain to the chn theycannot just start typing in publisher, they need to insert a textbox, demonstrate how to insert a text box.

       Point out that the fonttoolbar appears and highlight the text to change the style andsize.

       Demonstrate how to zoomin and out. Show how you can fill the text box a different colouras well as change the text colour.

       Demonstrate using wordart, go through what each icon can do and look at the similaritiesand differences to Word.

       Demonstrate how to addborder Art

( Throughout demonstrating getthe chn to have a go at each new technique)

Explain to the chn they are going toproduce the same work they did in the previous lesson they did inWord. This is so they can compare the differences in eachprogram.

 

Plenary:

Discuss as a class the similarities anddifferences between Word and Publisher. Which did they find easierto use and why? Which would they prefer to use?

Moreable:

Introduction:

Show chn a variety of Newspapers andmagazines and use ones brought in for homework. Look at one as anexample, discuss the different font styles, colour, size, look atthe layout, how are the graphics put on? do they over lap? Give chntime to look at their own to get an idea.

 

Main:

Explain that we are going to make a onepage newspaper/magazine. Open Publisher and select the newsletterwizard. Go through the wizard as a whole class followingon-screen

  Show chn the examplenewsletter they are to create using the information they havecollected for homework and /or information off the internet.

  Demonstrate how toinsert a picture and how to crop if it is too big. Discussimportance of re-sizing pictures, can make them blurred as thepixel become too big. Demonstrate on the picture to show.

  Demonstrate how to addshapes, custom rotate a picture, place things in front or behind tolayer.

Set chn on task to create a one pagenewsletter on own selected area: football, pop groups, Simpsonsetc.

 

Once complete, ensure name on and printoff.

 

Plenary:

Get together in small groups and look ateach others work, discuss what they like and what they think couldbe improved. Discuss extra skills learnt.

 

Moreable:

Have more complexlayers and alter layout of columns, and pictures.

Lessable:

Keep wizard layout,add picture and try to layer one item.

Go over the homework chn have collectresearch on place they can make a leaflet for. Discuss why placeshave leaflets? What are they useful? What should they be like.Discuss eye catching, aimed at the audience, have usefulinformation etc.

 

Main:

Explain that we are going to make a leafletabout their chosen destination using the information collected andinformation from the internet. Open Publisher and select theleaflet wizard. Go through the wizard as a whole class followingon-screen.

  Go through the layoutand explain what page each section is. Show example of a foldedpiece of paper.

  Show example on theboard of the leaflet they are to create.

  Demonstrate how toinsert page numbers, how to use the nudge feature.

  Demonstrate how to add atable for the opening times or price lists.

( Throughout demonstrating getthe chn to have a go at each new technique)

  Explain they are tocreate the leaflet using techniques of the program learnt inprevious lessons and they have two lessons to do this.

Once complete, ensure name on and printoff.
